Entre humanos y plantas: rituales, conocimiento y reciprocidad en el cultivo hogareño de cannabis
An ethnography of care, the senses and shared learning in home cannabis cultivation in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.
Abstract
This paper examines relations between people and plants in home cannabis cultivation in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. Drawing on ethnographic material gathered between 2020 and 2024, it analyses the transformation of domestic space, the temporalities of care, their ritualisation and the community circulation of knowledge.
The argument proposes a relational understanding of plant agency: changes in the plants take part in growers' decisions and learning without implying that the plants have human intentions. Accounts of reciprocity bring together affect, technical knowledge and responsibility.
The scope is situated and interpretive; the paper offers no evidence of clinical efficacy, sustainability or biological symbiosis. The discussion raises questions about multispecies coexistence, knowledge and care in urban life.
